NMC issues PwBD guidelines for PG medical admission 2026; NBEMS adopts them

NMC published PwBD assessment guidelines for MD/MS/DNB admission on 16 September 2026. NBEMS adopted the same guidelines on 29 September and mapped its 2026 courses to them.

On 16 September 2026, the National Medical Commission issued the “Guidelines on Assessment of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) for Admission to the Post Graduate Medical Courses, 2026.” They apply to MD, MS and DNB. A candidate needs at least 40% benchmark disability under the RPwD Act, 2016. Assessment is discipline-specific. The guidelines took effect on the date NMC published them. On 29 September 2026, NBEMS told accredited institutes and aspiring trainees that it has adopted these guidelines and mapped NBEMS courses and specialties for the 2026 session to the NMC framework. PwBD matters for NBEMS seats will be decided on that mapping.
